The Folder of my Heart
Pedro Ruxa
Acrylic on canvas
2019
This image came to the artist during a period in which he was spending a good deal of time on the computer, organising his visual-source archive. He collects images into folders by subject and in doing so, he has created a folder for the ‘heart-symbol,' which grouped images of the heart as an abstract pop culture image and a love organ meant to deal with emotions. One day as Ruxa was contemplating his archives, he had a vision of the entire universe sorted by little folders, each with a preview picture. He was particularly drawn to the image of this heart-symbol-folder and felt a deep, subconscious meaning associated with it – a folder that would contain something completely abstract, incomprehensible and inaccessible about himself. This heart is not so much an allegory for love, but rather a visual allegory of all his emotions. The title of the work speaks to the time a feeling needs to become conscious, but also about painting itself, and the time it requires for an idea to become concrete.
